Every Day is Earth Day for HLK

Happy Earth Day from HLK. 

Sustainability is easy to talk about when it is trending, but much harder when life gets busy and expensive. At HLK, it has never been about trends. Since 2018, HLK has been creating with sustainable materials like cactus, hanji, and Korean melon peel. Not just for Earth Day, but because it has always been part of who we are.

When I returned to Korea from America with my kids, the fine dust hit us immediately. It wasn't something I just read about. It was my own child coughing. The air we were breathing in every single day. 

In 2023, there were 300 zero-waste stories across Korea. Today, fewer than 200 remain. People say eco-friendly products are too expensive. Too inconvenient. Can sustainability and convenience really not co-exist? 

The higher price of sustainable products isn't a markup. It's the environmental tax we pay in advance—for the generations after us. Small-batch production and handmade, intensive sourcing don't cost us the planet.

Fashion doesn’t have to cost the planet. Our products are designed, sourced, and made locally in Korea—beautiful bags and wallets that are sturdy, reliable and aren’t harmful to the environment. When sustainability was trending, and now, when it's quiet—we've always made things the same way. 

We stopped putting it off. Today, and everyday, we begin again. Our planet isn't a trend. Let's celebrate Earth Day everyday.
